Android 17 Bug Report: Pixel Users Losing 5G Connectivity and Widgets After Update

New software launches rarely go off without a hitch, and Android 17 is proving no different. Shortly after the update rolled out, Pixel owners began reporting connectivity problems — specifically, losing access to 5G entirely after installing the update.
Reports surfaced on the Google Pixel subreddit, with multiple users across different device generations describing the same issue. The original poster noted that after downloading Android 17 on a Pixel 9 Pro, the phone dropped to LTE and wouldn’t reconnect to 5G — despite having maintained a consistent 5G connection before the update. Similar reports followed from Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 8a, and Pixel 6a owners, all experiencing the same LTE-only behavior after updating.
The problems don’t stop at 5G. One user reported that their eSIM disappeared entirely after the update, leaving the phone unable to connect to any mobile network. Another described losing both 5G and 4G, with the phone falling back to satellite connectivity as a last resort.
A Google Support representative responded to the thread and linked to a document intended to help users troubleshoot the 5G issue. However, the original poster credited a fellow community member with the fix that actually worked: putting the Pixel 9 Pro into repair mode and restarting the device restored 5G connectivity.

A bumpy start for Android 17
Google released Android 17 on Tuesday and moved quickly to begin rolling it out to eligible devices, starting with its Pixel lineup. The update brings a range of new features alongside strengthened security and threat detection capabilities — but the launch hasn’t been without issues.
Beyond the 5G problems, some Pixel users have reported that widgets disappeared after installing Android 17. The issue doesn’t appear to be widespread based on early reports, and it seems to be largely limited to devices with a work profile set up. Google has acknowledged the problem and confirmed it’s working on a fix for a future patch.
Alongside Android 17, Google also released a June Pixel Drop. Highlights include the addition of Bubbles and the Bubble Bar — the latter being particularly relevant for Pixel Fold owners, while Bubbles more broadly enables app multitasking through a floating menu on the device. Pixel Watch users also received an update to emergency detection features, with new sharing capabilities added.
