A report from South Korea indicates Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales rose 20% in the week following the iPhone Duo release, linked to display-cracking reports on Apple's foldable. Apple CEO John Ternus claims few units have issues, while reports allege strong sales for both wide foldables.

Sales of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 rose following the release of Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, according to a report from South Korea. The account indicates that Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales increased by 20% over the past week following the iPhone Duo’s release. The figures track sales recorded since the phone became available, distinct from its launch. The jump in sales is attributed to quality control controversies surrounding the iPhone Duo, specifically reports of cracking displays.

Those hardware concerns seemingly encouraged shoppers to turn toward the Galaxy Z Fold 8. John Ternus, Apple’s new CEO, claims that a very limited number of iPhone Duos are experiencing these issues, adding that Apple is in the process of replacing affected units.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has seen high demand since launch. Pre-orders reached 1.44 million units in South Korea alone, marking a substantial increase over the Galaxy Z Fold 7 that surpassed Samsung’s previous records. Samsung also offers several promotions for the device, which helped it sell well, particularly in its home market.
The iPhone Duo is also allegedly selling well despite these controversies. Specific sales figures remain unavailable, though reports continue to claim strong interest. Apple is also having difficulty securing enough units to sell, an issue expected months before the phone was announced because the company was unable to manufacture enough devices for day one.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo are currently the most popular wide foldable phones on the market, though they are not the only ones. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is available, though limited to China, and the same applies to the Huawei Pura X Max.
