Nothing has officially started rolling out its Nothing OS 5 update to the Phone 3, moving the device from public testing to general release. The software upgrade delivers Android 17 along with the company’s latest system changes to everyone who owns the handset, regardless of whether they joined the earlier preview program. Following two months of active testing, this distribution delivers what Nothing terms the full experience across the device.
The rollout will not hit every handset immediately. In a community forum post, Nothing confirmed that OS 5.0 is deploying in a staggered release. Specific regions and local user groups will receive the installation package earlier than others, meaning device owners will need to exercise patience through this week and into the next. Handset owners who want to verify availability manually can navigate to Settings > System > System Update to check whether the software package is ready for download and installation.

Beyond the base Android 17 operating system, Nothing OS 5 introduces several distinct design alterations. The software incorporates a fresh system typeface called Geist, which the company describes as “cleaner and easier to scan.” This typography arrives alongside visual adjustments across the status bar, camera interface, system Settings menus, and the Gallery app. In another interface revision, the Glyph Interface now functions through its own dedicated application, gathering all features and sounds into one place.

Artificial intelligence capabilities also receive deliberate attention in the build. Nothing has expanded its Essential AI suite, making machine learning tools a central focus of its Android 17 integration. The update brings improved real-time transcriptions to aid with spoken audio, while an updated Smart Collections tool can “suggest and organize content for you automatically.” Expanded customization options for the lock screen alongside deeper system personalization settings round out the core software additions on the Phone 3.

Phone 3 owners represent the initial group to transition away from prerelease testing. Nothing kicked off its open beta program for the device in late August, making the handset the first in the company’s lineup to join the Android 17 test cycle and the first to conclude it. While Phone 3 users are now beginning to receive the final software, several other hardware models remain in development.
According to Nothing’s updated release roadmap, the Phone 4a, Phone 4a Pro, Phone 3a, and Phone 3a Pro are still running their respective Open Beta builds after entering the preview program in September. Owners of those devices await an official general rollout, with a chance that public releases could arrive later in October or November.
