Google has released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 for eligible Pixel smartphones and tablets, a bug-fix build that arrives even though testing for the newer QPR3 branch began last week. Carrying build number CP41.260831.016, the update adds no new interface features. It instead targets two frustrating problems that beta testers reported through the issue tracker over the past few weeks.
The biggest fix addresses a background power bug tied to the popular Flip to Shh gesture. On earlier beta builds, placing a Pixel face down when the feature engaged kept the processor from entering a deep sleep state. Background hardware stayed active indefinitely, which drained the battery excessively while phones sat idle on desks or nightstands.

The second fix covers a system-level file transfer error. Many users found that HTTPS downloads started through Android’s built-in DownloadManager failed instantly without completing. Beta 7 corrects that problem, so downloads work normally again in web browsers and third-party utility apps.
System images cover a wide range of Google hardware, from older Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 lineups to the Pixel 9 series, the Pixel 10 family, and recent Pixel 11 models. The Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold are included as well.
Testers enrolled in the beta track can grab the update over the air, though manually sideloading the system image remains the fastest way to install the patch right away. Google urges testers to report any newly discovered glitches through the built-in Android Beta Feedback app or in the official Android Beta Reddit community, which helps smooth out the code before the final public release.

The previous Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 update mostly focused on fixing bugs that had been plaguing devices for a while, including a substantial issue that caused phones to reboot simply from scrolling through content, along with fixes for letterboxed content leaking through the status bar during app transitions and a Pixel 9 Pro Fold […]
