The previous Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 update mostly focused on fixing bugs that had been plaguing devices for a while, including a substantial issue that caused phones to reboot simply from scrolling through content, along with fixes for letterboxed content leaking through the status bar during app transitions and a Pixel 9 Pro Fold bug that triggered reboots after third-party apps opened the camera viewfinder. By comparison, Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1 looks much less substantial, though that’s largely because Google hasn’t listed most of what the update actually changes.
As noted by 9to5Google, the release notes for Beta 6.1 don’t offer much detail about what’s being fixed, aside from one small mention involving one of Google’s newest phones. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is getting a fix in this update, specifically for an issue that may be tied to Face Unlock. Google doesn’t explicitly confirm there was a Face Unlock problem, but the release notes do mention that users who install this beta software might need to re-enroll Face Unlock afterward.
Two separate builds make up this beta release. One, CP41.260831.011, targets the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The other, CP41.260831.007.A3, is meant for any other device enrolled in and compatible with the Android Beta program.
Earlier the same day, reports surfaced that HiLight for Messages was on its way, after new color customization options and references to Messages support turned up in earlier findings. That feature is now confirmed active as of Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1, letting users assign a color to favorite contacts, with a toggle covering both messages and calls. However, according to 9to5Google, the new colors mentioned in that earlier report aren’t actually present in this build.
