The Pixel update schedule has shifted with missed monthly rollouts as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series near the end of their official support periods.
The Pixel update schedule has grown irregular for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 generations as both phone lineups approach the end of their support windows. Google supports the Pixel 6 family through 2026, while the Pixel 7 series is scheduled for updates through 2027. Multiple missed monthly releases began surfacing around July 2025, leaving owners uncertain about firmware delivery for these aging handsets.
Google established a consistent monthly patching rhythm starting with the original Pixel. That routine turned an omitted monthly release into an unusual occurrence. Missing several months consecutively represents a marked departure from historic practice. Even so, Google’s public documentation has never explicitly promised monthly OTA rollouts. The company’s official support documentation defines support by calendar years without promising thirty-day delivery intervals.

Inquiries regarding the adjusted release intervals for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 yielded limited detail from Google representatives. The company stated that all supported Pixel devices remain compliant with security requirements. When asked specifically about the missed Pixel 6 releases, Google provided the following statement:
“Pixel phones will remain security compliant for the full duration of their support windows, which can be found here .
Your device will remain private and secure through Pixel specific patches, Google Play System Updates and fixes through the Android Security Bulletin. You can also expect your phone to get better over time with regular Pixel Drops and updates to the latest OS for the device’s full support window.”
That broad response offered little clarification regarding calendar expectations. Consequently, timeline tracking was established to record active firmware releases and observe ongoing trends across affected models. Google also confirmed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro reached end of life status alongside Android 17 QPR1, which achieved stability in September 2026. Official support for those flagship devices is expected to end in October 2026.

Owners of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro should currently be running build CP3A.261005.002.A1. The logged firmware history shows several release gaps between mid-2025 and late 2026:
The October 2026 patch reached the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro on schedule. This release is expected to be their final firmware update because October 2026 marks the end of their support life.
The current active build for the Pixel 6a is CP3A.261005.002.A1. The mid-range model followed a distinct rollout pattern during the same timeframe:
The Pixel 6a also received the October 2026 release alongside the rest of the generation.
For the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, the current software build is CP3A.261005.002.A1. Recorded entries show irregular delivery after mid-2025:
The current build for the Pixel 7a is CP3A.261005.002.A1. The phone experienced several missed monthly targets while receiving other scheduled security packages:
Tracking for these devices continues each month unless Google resumes regular thirty-day deliveries. Additional Pixel models will be included if their monthly rollout intervals begin slipping.
An update from October 21, 2026, confirmed that Google distributed the October 2026 update earlier in the month as a minor security release. Every tracked device received this software package, including the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. For the Pixel 6 generation, that rollout is expected to be the final official release.
