Google is rolling out an official fix for severe Pixel Watch battery drain through Play Store app updates across multiple smartwatch generations. Users can install the updates manually by opening the Play Store on their watch and updating all apps.
Google has begun rolling out an official Pixel Watch battery drain fix after wearable owners spent the past week dealing with severely shortened runtimes. The bug caused battery life to crater overnight across multiple smartwatch generations, reducing endurance to roughly 12 hours even on devices that remained mostly idle. While the company previously acknowledged that a fix was in the works, Google confirmed to Android Authority that the rollout is underway to resolve the issue.

According to Google, the distribution will take place over the next couple of days. A company spokesperson confirmed the rollout in a statement to Android Authority, noting that the issue affected a small number of Pixel Watch users:
The fix for the battery drain issue, affecting a small number of Pixel Watch users has begun rolling-out and will be complete over the next couple of days. To implement the fix, please update your Pixel Watch apps by pressing the crown on your Pixel Watch, opening the Play Store app, and tapping Manage apps > Update all .
The problem first surfaced when owners reported sudden, extreme battery drain that knocked battery life down to roughly 12 hours on mostly idle devices. Because the bug simultaneously affected various generations of the Pixel Watch, observers suspected a misbehaving background service or a rogue Wear OS app rather than a hardware defect.
Google’s remedy practically confirms this suspicion, as the fix arrives as an app update. The official statement did not clarify which app caused the issue. Pixel Watch owners can monitor which apps receive updates and check whether battery life returns to previous levels afterward. One of those updated apps was likely the culprit.
Because Google is staging the rollout over a couple of days, automatic downloads may not reach every wearable immediately. Users looking to resolve the issue right away can trigger the update check manually on the watch. Opening the on-device Play Store and choosing the option to update all apps will pull down the new versions as soon as they become available for the account.
