Google has extended free Satellite SOS coverage for Pixel 9 owners by one additional year. The feature enables emergency communication and location sharing without cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity. Google originally promised two years of free service, but future subscription plans or ongoing pricing remain unannounced.

Google has extended free Pixel 9 Satellite SOS access by another year. The feature debuted with the Pixel 9 lineup to let users reach emergency services and share location data over satellite when cellular and Wi-Fi connections are unavailable. Google originally included two years of complimentary coverage following device activation, leaving owners to wonder what would happen once that initial period concluded.

Spokesperson confirms one-year extension

Google confirmed the decision to PCMag after the publication asked whether users would face charges as the original two-year free window came to a close. “Confirming that we’ve extended this offering, at no additional cost, for one additional year. We have no details to share beyond that at this time,” a Google spokesperson told the publication.

This extension means Pixel 9 owners can continue using the emergency tool without an additional fee for another year. The service enables people to reach emergency personnel and share location details over satellite when terrestrial networks drop out. Google has not specified what will happen once that timeframe expires, leaving both the long-term availability and potential pricing of Satellite SOS unannounced.

Long-term subscription plans remain unannounced

When Google launched the Pixel 9 series, it promised that Satellite SOS would remain available at no additional charge for the first two years after an owner activated a compatible device. Because that initial two-year window has now expired, questions quickly arose regarding how Google planned to manage the service moving forward.

Google has not publicly confirmed that Satellite SOS will become a paid service, nor has it announced subscription prices or a paid plan. Pixel 9 owners retain emergency satellite connectivity for another year, while Google has yet to outline any future billing structure.
