Garmin CIRQA vibration alerts are now rolling out in firmware 4.20, adding call and text notifications alongside three activity tracking updates.

Garmin CIRQA vibration alerts have arrived for incoming phone calls and text messages with firmware update 4.20. Screenless fitness trackers are becoming increasingly popular, partly because they do not present the constant distraction smartwatches create. Competing screenless bands such as the Fitbit Air and WHOOP remain firmly fitness-focused, choosing not to notify wearers about incoming calls or texts on their phones. Garmin’s CIRQA Smart Band previously shared that design philosophy, but the company has now reversed course.
The rollout includes a notable contradiction across Garmin’s official materials. In a changelog cited by Gadgets & Wearables for the firmware update jumping from version 3.0 to 4.0, Garmin lists “Support vibration for smart notifications/incoming calls”. At the same time, the official CIRQA FAQ page continues to state: “The CIRQA smart band does not vibrate for text messages, phone calls, or other smartphone notifications.”

Calls for vibration alerts had appeared on the Garmin forums over several months. One CIRQA wearer explained that haptic feedback would serve as a useful accommodation for their hearing difficulties. Garmin replied in the forum thread with a link to its ideas form, writing: “If that is something you’d like to see in the future, either in new products or software, please submit your request here so it can be considered for possible use.”
Whether Garmin already planned the vibration feature before those forum requests remains unconfirmed, but user reaction on the Garmin subreddit has been positive. As one owner noted: “I was missing this. And missing calls and texts. I keep my phone on silent. I tried to go back to having ringer on but I hated that more than missing the calls.”
Firmware version 4.20 brings three other practical features to the CIRQA besides vibration notifications. Garmin added run-walk detection for the Trail Run activity profile. The release also gives users the ability to calibrate distance for Treadmill Run, Indoor Rowing, and Indoor Cycling activities directly on the device before saving a workout. On the companion software side, the Live Activity screen in Garmin Connect can now display heart rate before recording begins.
